Liquor Amendment (Special Events Hotel Trading) Act 2002 No 29



An Act to amend the Liquor Act 1982 to enable hotel trading until midnight on the night of the 2002 FIFA World Cup soccer final and until midnight on a Sunday on which an event of State, national or international significance is held.
2   Commencement
This Act commences on the date of assent.
3   Amendment of Liquor Act 1982 No 147
The Liquor Act 1982 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.

Sections 24A and 24B
Insert after section 24:
  
24A   Hotel trading hours on night of 2002 FIFA World Cup final
(1)  Despite any other provision of this Division, liquor may be sold, supplied or consumed on premises to which a hotelier’s licence relates, and the premises may be kept open for the sale, supply or consumption of liquor, on Sunday 30 June 2002:
(a)  from 10 am to 10 pm, and
(b)  from 10 pm to midnight on that day but only when the liquor is sold or supplied for consumption on the licensed premises.
(2)  This section does not authorise the sale, supply or consumption of liquor on any licensed premises contrary to a restriction or prohibition imposed, otherwise than under section 24, in respect of the trading hours for the licensed premises.
24B   Hotel trading hours on Sundays when special events are held
(1)  This section applies to any Sunday the date of which is prescribed by the regulations for the purposes of this section.
(2)  The Minister may recommend the making of a regulation prescribing any such date only if the Minister is of the opinion that an event of State, national or international significance is to be held on that date.
(3)  Despite any other provision of this Division, liquor may be sold, supplied or consumed on premises to which a hotelier’s licence relates, and the premises may be kept open for the sale, supply or consumption of liquor, on any day to which this section applies:
(a)  from 10 am to 10 pm, and
(b)  from 10 pm to midnight on that day but only when the liquor is sold or supplied for consumption on the licensed premises.
(4)  This section does not authorise the sale, supply or consumption of liquor on any licensed premises contrary to a restriction or prohibition imposed, otherwise than under section 24, in respect of the trading hours for the licensed premises.
